I can't stand hockey, so I've actually been more or less ambivalent about CBC's "Movie Night in Canada"
replacement programming. Less ambivalent, actually, because the movie selection has actually been rather good: recent animated features, Star Wars
, the classic Toho Godzilla
movies, and the like. The Star Wars
trilogy has actually even been broadcast properly letterboxed, and apparently from the recently-released DVD version.
That bothers me, for CBC to do such things correctly, even if only in shunning the pan-and-scan versions. It's like discovering a scale model of the Taj Mahal built by ants: it implies a level of competence and awareness that's both unexpected and frightening, given the circumstances.
